This is a vintage Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle chambered in 45-70 Government. It features a 32-inch barrel, trapdoor action, adjustable rear rifle sight, spike bayonet, and metal butt plate stamped "US". Overall, this Springfield is in good vintage condition with normal age-related wear to the finish throughout the stock, barrel, and side lock. Bore condition is good with strong rifling. A cartouche with an 1891 date is visible on the left side of the stock. Based on serial range, this Springfield was manufactured in 1886. This would make a good choice for collectors.
