This is a James Purdey & Sons Best Quality Game Gun shotgun chambered in 12 Gauge. It features a case color hardened receiver, heavily engraved embellishments, integrated checkered butt, dual triggers, and blued trigger guard. The buttstock features a LOP of 14.5-inches to the forward most trigger. It also features the initials WC housed within a metal medallion. There is a small sling swivel plug located just ahead of the medallion. Included is a 27-inch barrel (choked .715" Light Modified & .705" Improved Modified) and a 30-inch barrel (choked .710 Modified & .705 Improved Modified). Both barrels feature a South Audley London address line, are serialized to receiver, and have 2.75-inch chambers. The 27-inch barrel features the Number "1" in gold inlay just before the rib and 2.5" chamber proofs (alluding to the fact the chambers have been honed to except the longer 2.75" inch rounds). The Abercrombie & Fitch Co case includes A. F. Co marked oil canteen, 2 marked Snap Caps. and several cleaning items. The case is in good condition and features a new handle that was professionally installed. Overall, this Purdey is in very good condition with very minor cosmetic wear throughout the finish on the firearm. The most notable being a one-inch scratch near the rear of one of the barrels (see photos for details). This gun would make a great choice for collectors looking to own a beautiful and historically significant piece of gun history.

J. Purdey & Sons Abridged History
Founder James Purdey was born in 1784, and completed his first apprenticeship in 1805, working for both Joseph Manton and Reverend Alexander Forsyth before establishing his own business in 1814. In 1825, Purdey made its first gun for continental royalty, and the same year, the company made a gun for the Duke of Gloucester, brother to King George IV. Throughout its history, the firm was granted 17 patents, the most enduring being 1863's double bolt snap action - in essence, the famed Purdey bolts, which secures the barrels to the action of almost every SxS double gun made in the world today. There is also Frederick Beesley's self-opening action, which Purdey helped him patent and purchased from him in 1880, and has been the basis for the firm's best quality SxS ever since. The company celebrated its bicentenary in 2014 with the opening of a new factory, where it continues to combine traditional gunmaking skills with modern technology.
